The plane trip was long and tiring, draining what little energy Gavenia had left out of her system.  The car trip was even worse. The sun beat down mercilessly on the girls, leaving Gavenia stuck to her seat. She groaned with discomfort.
"We're almost there Gavenia, I promise." Kayla whispered, turning on her indicator.
"You said that an hour ago…"
"I know."
Gavenia ran her fingers through her hair, attempting to comb her fringe out of the way. It was stupid of her to pick now of all times to get a dangly, annoying, sweat-insulating bunch of bangs. Kayla offered her a hair tie but it was too small and snapped when Gavenia tried to put it in her hair. She sighed, looking out the window. Nothing but palm trees and pools. Surely this is heaven on Earth… Gavenia thought, wiping her forehead. Damn Kayla's second-hand car…

"Hey, wake up. We're here."
Gavenia groaned, stretching a little. How long had she been asleep? She bet that Kayla had played some kind of lullaby to put her to sleep…again.
She attempted to sweep her sweat-dampened fringe to the side with no luck. Annoyed, she simply blew it out of her eyes as Kayla gave her instructions to carry out.
"That's it right there, the small white one," She paused to catch her breath, flicking her bangs out of the way. "Just grab your bag and haul it inside. We'll take care of packing later…it's too hot right now." Gavenia shrugged, too exhausted to respond verbally. She took the keys from Kayla, opening the boot. She then reached inside, struggling to pull her suitcase out. She had forgotten how much she'd really packed. Kayla offered to help as she was most definitely stronger than Gavenia, but she refused her assistance none-the-less and managed to heave the suitcase out onto the tarmac with great difficulty, panting viciously like a sick dog.
"You okay?" Kayla asked, her voice laden with heavy concern.
"Y-Y…Yeah. Just open the house and I'll b-be fine…" Gavenia responded, wiping her face with her shirt. Kayla nodded and took the keys back, thrusting them into the lock of the front door.
"There you go."
"Thanks, Kayla…" Gavenia walked past her and through the door, pulling her suitcase along behind her. The inside of the house was even worse than the outside. Instead of it being hot and dry, the air was heavy with moisture. She moaned, feeling like a soggy piece of bread.
"Kayla, is there air conditioning…?" Gavenia called, rolling her suitcase into the smaller bedroom of the two and letting it fall on its side.
"Yeah, I'll come in and turn it on in a moment." Kayla cried back, her voice almost inaudible through the concrete walls.
Gavenia yawned, crouching down beside the case, zipping it open. She'd always hated unpacking. So much work and effort was put in to sort everything into separate drawers and wardrobes when in reality it's all going to be TOO organised and sooner or later it all gets thrown into random cupboards. At least that's how it had always been for Gavenia.

The drone of the air conditioner drowned out the teacher's instructions, filling the student's ears with nothing but cool air, which in the short run was much better (in their opinion). Students raised their fans of crumpled paper like wine glasses to a toast, adding to the excess sounds that further deafened everybody.
Abraham loosened his tie, fanning himself wearily. Orlando had never been this hot before and it was a shock to the students of Bloomsville Private. Usually they never had to use the air conditioning but this week had been a rare exception as everybody could tell. Half of the fans were broken and most of the air-cons were filled with dust, grime and god-knows what else. The teachers couldn't care less. Probably because they're used to shit in their lungs… he thought, exhaling.
"Abraham, can you solve this problem?"
He sighed, closing his eyes.
"'Course I can." He mumbled, undoing his top button.
"Then why don't you come up and do it for us?" the teacher hissed, thrusting the whiteboard marker out for Abraham to take. Open an eye and dropping his book (which he had been using to fan himself), he took the marker and hauled himself out of his seat, sticky with sweat. As he walked the floorboards wilted under his feet, almost as tired as the students.
Abraham, marker in hand, raised his arm slowly. He yawned before proceeding to scribble down the working out for the problem. He muttered various numbers, jotting down his every thought without a moment's hesitation. Finally, after several minutes of struggle in reading his own handwriting, Abraham solved the problem. He handed the pen back to Mr Kirk, slouching down drowsily in his chair once more.
"Good enough, I suppose." The teacher sighed, taking the marker and putting it in his pencil case. "Now, everybody, turn to page 312 in your textbooks and complete questions one through to four."
Abraham narrowed his eyes, opening his exercise and textbook, jotting down the various questions and noting everything he needed to for the upcoming exam.
Goddamnit…won't it just ring already…?
